Dory Maust
NOTE: Dory's husband is NOT related to David Maust as the Associated Press and other sources are claiming. IF there is a
relation it is so distant they don't know about it; that was the original quote.

Hammond serial killer David Maust's life is chronicled in a book published this month titled, "Blood Stained: When
No One Comes Looking."

Author Dory Maust, who is of no direct relation to the killer, has said she hopes telling the story of David Maust's
tormented life will prevent at least "one more David from pulling the trigger." She called it an "extremely powerful
and disturbing book."

"Parental abuse and abandonment coupled with mental illness in this case grew a garden of murder in David,"
Dory Maust said Wednesday. "It does not have to happen. It can be prevented. Sweeping what happened under
the rug is irresponsible."

Lake Criminal Court Judge Clarence Murray sentenced David Maust in 2005 to three consecutive life sentences
without parole for murdering Hammond teens James Raganyi, 16, Nicholas James, 19, and Michael Dennis, 13.

The teens' bodies were found buried under concrete in the basement of a Hammond home Maust rented.

Maust pleaded guilty to the murders, skirting the death penalty. He committed suicide in the Lake County Jail about
a month after sentencing.

Aside from the Hammond teens, Maust also killed James McClister in 1974 in Germany and Donald Jones, 15, of
Chicago, in 1981.

Dory Maust enlisted the help of former Hammond Detective Lt. Ron Johnson and David Maust's defense attorney
Tom Vanes to research her book.

They provided insight and documentation, including a 1,255-page autobiography that David Maust had written
during the last two years of his life, Dory Maust said. To purchase "Blood Stained: When No One Comes Looking,"
