I want to start with the author, Dory Maust. What a talent! As I am sure you have discovered reading this book.
She is the most down to earth, warm, loving, caring person you could meet and really put her heart and soul
into bringing the tragic events of David’s life to the forefront.
Now for David Maust himself:
Lost soul; they are the two words that I feel best describe David. He never had a chance. From the time he was
born to his first fling with the thought of murder, his life as an adult was doomed. Abandoned by the people who
were supposed to love and nurture him, he spent his adult life looking for acceptance and love, albeit he never
really knew what “real love” was. So how was a young child, as his mind remained, suppose to find it?
The tragedy of the young children he murdered reverberates through his life as well, and I am sorry if anyone
disagrees, as that is your right. But I feel so sorry for him. When I think of David after reading this book and his
handwritten autobiography, all I can see is a scared little boy who only wanted to be loved.
In childhood his parents failed him, and in adulthood the system did as well.
In parting, I hope only good things for all involved in this senseless tragedy.
